Allan’s Landscaping Project

At Allan’s Landscaping we love doing special projects for our clients and this video shows another successful Allan’s Landscaping project.  From conceptualization to completion Allan’s Landscaping has all the services and supplies needed to get your landscaping project done right.

Landscaping your brand new lot or changing up an existing yard can be very daunting.  Where do you start?  What is out there?  What fits in with your lifestyle?  And what will create your back yard sanctuary?  These are some of the questions that may be facing you when your start thinking about your landscaping project on your Saskatoon home.  At Allan’s Landscaping we will sit down with you and figure out what your needs and want are.

What We Do

We have more services that we can list.  For this reason we know we can handle your project from start to finish.  In this video we used several of our services to make the finished project awesome!!!

Window Wells

Windows in some basements are hard to incorporate but are necessary.  In basements that are below the ground you need window wells to support the dirt around the window and keep moisture out.  In the past, window wells were not attractive but Allan’s Landscaping can take a very boring part of your home design, that is usually an eye sore, and make it stunning.

Sod

Grass is the foundation for almost all yards.  However, getting new grass to look beautiful can be tricky.  If you seed your own grass you have to make sure it get the right amount of moisture and all pets and children stay off of it for a very long time.  Sod is a great alternative.  Allan’s Landscaping will make sure your sod is healthy, installed correctly and give you all the instructions you need to take care of it.

Re-Sloping

Yards settle, renovations can cause uneven landscape, or perhaps when your house was built 40 years ago the sloping of your yard wasn’t done exactly right.  No matter what the reason, an incorrectly sloping yard can lead to drainage nightmares.  Again, Allan’s Landscaping has the know how and the equipment to correct your sloping issues.

Whatever your need or want is in relation to your landscaping project Allan’s Landscaping Project Team will sit down with you and get your project planned out so the process is easy and the finished project is breathtaking.

Landscaping Mulches in Saskatoon at Allan’s Landscaping

Landscaping Mulches in Saskatoon at Allan's Landscaping

Landscaping Mulches in Saskatoon at Allan’s Landscaping

Landscaping Mulches in Saskatoon at Allan’s Landscaping are a great way to make your yard  look stunning but they also have practical uses.  Mulches look great when they are applied to the soil surface around:

  • trees
  • paths
  • flower beds.

    Saskatoon Mulches Allans Landscaping
    Saskatoon Mulches Allans Landscaping

We have all gone by yards in Saskatoon in the summer and admired their polished look.  Mulches provide this look and a few other benefits.  When applied to soil mulches are a great way to maintain moisture, control weeds, improve the health and fertility of soil and prevent soil erosion on areas that slope.

Types of Mulches

Mulches can be made of either organic or non-organic materials.  Fortunately, Allan’s Landscaping carries both.  Some of the more popular mulches in Saskatoon carried at Allan’s Landscaping include:

  • rubber mulch
  • wood mulch
  • colored mulch
  • cedar mulch
  • spruce mulch
  • acorn mulch
  • many more option.

When to Apply Mulch

Mulches can be applied at different times of the year.  The effect mulch has on your yard and garden depends on what time of the year you apply the mulch.  For example, Mulches that are applied early in the spring help warm the soil and help retain the heat in the soil that can be lost in the evening while applying mulches in the summer help retain moisture and reduce the seeding of weeds.  When applied in the fall mulches are used to delay the growth of perennial plants in the spring or prevent growth in winter during warm spells, which limits freeze thaw damage.

If you want to get extreme and live on the edge a bit try putting colored mulches in your mix.  Allan’s Landscaping has several choices that can help you make the jump to the daring.  While some people are concerned that colored mulches may be toxic we can assure you these are perfectly safe for humans and pets.

Traditional Window Solutions

Steel Windows Solutions and Issues

Steel basement windows are typically designed with single-pane glass held in a steel sash (the movable part of the window). The sash pivots in a steel window frame. These windows are popular with builders because they’re inexpensive.

Disadvantages of Steel Windows:

  • Poor Energy Efficiency: Instead of holding in the heat during cold winter weather, steel window frames allow heat to escape outside, making the basement much colder than necessary. Poor

weatherstripping on these windows provides pathways for air infiltration

  • Short Lifespan: Within 5-10 years’ time, steel basement windows can rust and corrode so badly that they need to be replaced. That means that from the day they’re installed onward, they’re already beginning to deteriorate.
  • Loss of Functionality: When steel basement windows begin to rust in place, they will become difficult or impossible to open and close. Keeping the windows clean, functional and attractive becomes more and more of a task.
    Wood-Framed Basement Windows
  • A wood basement window typically has a painted wood frame that holds one or more panes of glass. Some wood basement windows have a sash that is operable, while other types can’t be opened or closed.

Wood Windows

Disadvantages of Wood-Framed Windows

  • Continual Maintenance: The paint on the window’s exterior will break down continually. To keep these windows looking good, you’ll need to repaint them every 5-8 years.
  • Short Lifespan: Wood basement windows are exposed to more water, mud, and humidity than other windows in your home. So while any window frame can be damaged by rot, this kind of damage occurs more quickly on wood basement windows.
  • Mold & Pests: Along with rot, wooden window frames will also support mold growth. And because basement windows are located so close to the ground, this damp, rotting wood can attract termites, carpenter ants, and other insects you don’t want in your home.
    Old-Fashioned Basement Window Wells
  • Old-style basement window wells are typically made from aluminum or steel.
  • They are most often installed in a half-oval shape that encloses your basement window.

Disadvantages To Old-Fashioned Window Wells

Allan's Landscaping Saskatoon Old Window Well
Allan’s Landscaping Saskatoon Old Window Well
  • Poor Energy Efficiency: Without a well-fitted window well cover, snow and ice can fill the well, and cold outside air can enter your basement through leaks around the window frame. These conditions make the basement and upstairs living space chilly, forcing your furnace to work overtime. If you replace your old-fashioned window well with a new version that includes a clear cover, you gain valuable protection from frigid outdoor temperatures.
  • Short Lifespan: Steel window wells can rust and deteriorate quickly ,leaving an ugly, corroded shell around each window. That’s not the view you want from inside your basement.
  • Debris, Snow, & Rainwater: Open window wells will continually fill with dirt, leaves, debris, rainwater, and snow. As this debris builds up, weeds and even tree seedlings may begin to grow in the window wells.
  • Along with the eyesore, water pooling in wells will build up against the basement windows. Most basement windows are not water-tight, so that water is likely to end up leaking through to your basement space.

How Important are Energy Efficient Basement Windows

Homeowners living in colder climates can save up to 30-40% on their energy bills simply by sealing the windows inside their homes.
What windows could be draftier and less energy efficient than corroded, outdated basement windows? Between the rotted frame and that thin, single pane of glass, heat literally flows straight through – and out of your home!

At Allan’s Landscaping, we’ve selected our basement windows and window wells with energy efficiency and long-lasting quality in mind – so you can make the most of your investment!

Our Basement Window System Features:

  • A Durable Vinyl Frame
  • Insulated (double-pane) Glass Low-E Coating
  • Covered Basement Window Wells
  • Sash panels remove for easy cleaning. Our basement window system is sure to stay looking brand new for many, many years. These all-vinyl windows require minimal cleaning and will never need the painting and maintenance of old-fashioned basement window systems.
